The Mobile Unit is a project developed for the European partnership Collabor8. The project has been designed and realized by the Dutch partner “Studio VMK.” Studio VMK stimulates the urban and economic development of the Veemarktkwartier, a city zone in Tilburg, and is running this project with creative entrepreneurs from that area. 

The Veemarktkwartier is the only urban participant in the Collabor8-project. In this city zone, the entrepreneurs occupy themselves with new media, audio-visual technology and communication design. The other partners within the project felt that the knowledge from these entrepreneurs, could help the entrepreneurs from their own area’s with their business. Thus the idea for the Mobile Unit was born.

Mobile Unit
The Mobile Unit exists of a big inflatable tent and a team of entrepreneurs from the Veemarktkwartier. This changing crew travels to a location in the region of each partner within the Collabor8 project. In this area the Mobile Unit will run a Roadshow* for mostly three days with a mix of B2B consults*, creative workshops and blast presentations*. With this program, the entrepreneurs from the Veemarktkwartier show their answers to the questions the entrepreneurs from the partners area’s, mostly touristic- and recreation orientated, have. In the Mobile Unit new ideas are born and other ways of thinking and promoting are shown.

To understand completely what the Mobile Unit is, and how it found its existence, the following concept list will be useful. You can best read them in the order that is shown.

Veemarktkwartier – city zone for creation and innovation
The Veemarktkwartier is a city zone in the center of Tilburg, the Netherlands. This area knows a high level of concentration of creative industries, with over 200 creative enterprises. It is also the home to the popular pop podium 013, a beautiful city garden and lots of well-known, international orientated festivals. The Veemarktkwartier is the center of creative industries in Tilburg and will be developed further as a creative hotspot.

Studio VMK
Studio VMK is a foundation which stimulates the Veemarktkwartier. It gives the creative entrepreneurs a face and sets a binding program for the entrepreneurs in the area, creatives from all over Tilburg and enterprises from other sectors. It also disseminates information about the development of the area and happenings within the area. Studio VMK is partner in the Collabor8 project (see below).

Collabor8
Collabor8 is a European partnership project between nine partners from Ireland, Wales, England, Belgium and the Netherlands. All partners stimulate the economic development of a region by using sense of place. They work together closely with entrepreneurs in their areas. Most of these entrepreneurs are touristic- and recreation orientated. The Veemarktkwartier is the only urban area within the project, with mostly creative and innovative orientated entrepreneurs.

Roadshow
A Roadshow is a (mostly) three day program run by the VMK-entrepreneurs* at location of the Collabor8-partner. The entrepreneurs from this area are welcome in the Mobile Unit to listen to inspiring blast presentations* , to follow creative workshops and to get B2B consults*. Most of the time there is also a festively, final program with drinks, music and a very special videobeam*.

VMK-entrepreneurs
The VMK-entrepreneurs are the entrepreneurs from the Veemarktkwartier who travel along with the Mobile Unit. They are all specialist in a creative discipline, such as communication advisor, mobile application developer and so on. They will take care of an inspiring program during the Roadshows for the partners.

B2B Consult
Before the Mobile Unit arrives at its location, entrepreneurs from the partners area’s can send a question about a business problem that they have. During the Roadshow they visit the Mobile Unit and get a personal consult from a VMK-entrepreneur. These consults are always very successful because the VMK-entrepreneurs look at the question from another direction and have the knowledge to provide the entrepreneurs with awareness of the newest technologies and communication tools.

Blast Presentation
The VMK-entrepreneurs are all specialists in their own discipline. During a Roadshow, the VMK-entrepreneurs all present their knowledge is a short popping, impressive presentation. These presentations are very inspiring and they are seen as eye-openers about what are the new developments and technologies, especially in the media, communications and application branche.

Videomapping
One of the VMK-entrepreneurs that travels with the Mobile Unit is a specialist in the audiovisual sector. During the Roadshow he beams an impressive projection on the Mobile Unit tent. To see this is a very special experience. These beams could also be used on landscapes, such as forests or dunes. Therefore it is also a very useful new technique for the partners to know about.
